      <image:title>Château La Gorce - Château La Gorce</image:title>
<image:caption>Château La Gorce is an organically farmed Left Bank Bordeaux estate, classified as a Cru Bourgeois. The château is located in the Médoc appellation, the furthest north appellation in Bordeaux, a few miles north of St. Estèphe. Sandwiched between the Gironde river and the Atlantic ocean, with gravel, clay and limestone soils, Médoc wines are concentrated and savoury. La Gorce was purchased by Emmanuel Martin and his wife, Mana, shortly after the 2018 harvest. On the first day of ownership, the new owners instituted organic farming, and the estate will be certified organic from the 2023 vintage. The Cru Bourgeois classification is a well-respected, long-standing classification for Left Bank Bordeaux wines, usually made from a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cru Bourgeois châteaux are typically considered one qualitative step below their Grand Cru Classé neighbors, but are well known for their exceptional value, frequently producing very affordable wines that can nonetheless easily improve for 15-20 years. The Cru Bourgeois classification is made every five years, and is based on a blind tasting by a professional panel as well as other criteria, ensuring quality. La Gorce is a delicious, satisfying Bordeaux, rich yet dry, ripe but savory. It will appeal to lovers of classic Bordeaux and other French red wines.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ronchi di Cialla is a magical estate producing a famous wine: Schioppettino di Cialla. Occupying a whole valley in far northeastern Italy, near the Slovenian border, the Cialla cru is home to the Rapuzzi family and one of Italy’s rarest but most brilliant red varieties: Schioppettino. Saved from extinction by the family, Schioppettino is famous for its intense perfume, freshness and complexity, and being a wine that improves for decades. Cialla is also home to white varieties, which go into the estate’s top white wine, Ciallabianco; and other red varieties, including th ageworthy Refosco.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Heinrichshof, owned and run by brothers Peter and Ulrich Griebeler since 2014, is one of a handful of Mosel properties with a primary focus on making dry (Trocken) Riesling. While the steep slopes above the Mosel have traditionally been dedicated to sweeter styles, Heinrichshof is adapting to a new era of ripeness, and is making dry Riesling of great energy and detail, without any austerity, all for very attractive prices. In addition to the dry whites, the Griebler brothers also produce beautiful Kabinett and Auslese Riesling, showcasing the piercing purity and lightness of touch of these traditional Mosel styles.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Valados de Melgaco - Valados de Melgaço</image:title>
<image:caption>Valados de Melgaço is an important producer in the Vinho Verde region of northern Portugal. Valados is part of a new wave of Vinho Verde producers, overturning the reputation of the region as one simply making spritzy, light, insubstantial wines from unripe grapes. In the premium Monçao e Melgaço subregion, Valados makes 100% Alvarinho (i.e. Albariño) of great concentration and ageworthiness. The ambition of these new-wave Vinho Verde producers is simple: to compete with the best of the cool climate, fresh wines of northern Europe. Valados is well on the way to achieving that goal.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bernard Defaix - The Bernard Defaix domaine is a leading exponent of classic, mineral Chablis, farmed organically since 2009, and producing terroir-driven, fresh wines typical of their origins. Didier Defaix is the current winemaker of the family domaine, established in Chablis in the late 1950s. He is the fourth generation of his family to work the vines. Didier is assisted on the commercial side by his wife Hélène Jaeger-Defaix, herself a wine grower from Rully (Côte Chalonnaise) and whose wines are also made at the the winery in Milly, a small village a few minutes outside Chablis.</image:title>

<image:caption>Walter Scott is one of Oregon’s most celebrated producers, and one of the greatest exponents of Chardonnay in the US. Founded by husband and wife team Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon in 2008, Walter Scott has shot to fame for its restrained, taut, mineral expressions of Willamette Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Ken and Erica purchase fruit from a variety of vineyards, and produce three tiers of wine in both varieties: Combe Verte, a Willamette blend; cuvées Anne and Ruth, Eola-Amity blends from volcanic soils; and various single vineyard expressions.</image:caption>

<image:title>Buisson-Battault - Among Meursault producers, Domaine Buisson-Battault is an insider’s choice. The handsome house in the heart of Meursault is both winery and home to current proprietor, the genial François Buisson, whose antecedents have farmed vineyards here for at least five generations. The domaine produces 14 different appellations from a total of 8.5 hectares (19 acres) of organically farmed vineyards. The wines combine the easy-going fruit of Meursault with an irresistible mineral and acid drive. The domaine is a source of chiselled, pure wines that capture their terroir beautifully.</image:title>

<image:title>Bernard Rion - Domaine Armelle et Bernard Rion is a classic Côte de Nuits estate in Vosne-Romanée, producing wine from nine hectares of vineyard spread across several villages. Whatever the source, the wines are richly fruited, balanced and display their origins beautifully. The domaine dates back to the end of the nineteenth century, and has been helmed by Bernard and his wife Armelle since 1973. Today their three daughters manage much of the day to day running of the estate. Alice is primarily responsible for winemaking. The family are also well known as leading French truffle suppliers, and breed their own truffle-hunting dogs, the Lagotto Romagnol breed.</image:title>

      <image:title>Maugeri</image:title>
<image:caption>Maugeri is simply one of Italy’s most exciting new wine projects. In a remarkable location on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, overlooking the Ionian sea, the Maugeri family is crafting brilliant volcanic white wines. The stunning terraced estate, although having produced wine 50 years ago had more recently been turned over to fruit production. In 2012 the three Maugeri sisters, Paola, Michela and Carla decided to replant the estate to vines, and made their first vintage in 2020. They have already been garlanded with praise from leading critics, and have received the coveted Tre Bicchieri from Italian publication Gambero Rosso. Etna is often considered red wine territory, but on the eastern side of the volcano, around the small town of Milo, the tiny Etna Bianco Superiore DOC has long been home to Etna’s finest whites, made from the Carricante variety. Maugeri, then, is one of the only Etna producers not to make a red wine. Instead, they pay hommage to the legacy of this part of Etna through their mineral, scintillating whites.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bideona - Bideona farms parcels in Rioja Alavesa, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountain range</image:title>
<image:caption>Bodega Bideona is an important new estate in Rioja Alavesa whose ambition is simple: to restore the primacy of terroir in Rioja wines. The brainchild of Andreas Kubach MW, a veteran of the Spanish wine business, Bideona (meaning ‘the good way’ in Basque) had their first harvest in 2018. Already the estate is being celebrated for its vibrant, fresh wines unobscured by extended time in oak. At the establishment of Bideona, Andreas and his co-investors purchased a failing winery and its 288 plots of old, hillside vines on the limestone soils of Rioja Alavesa. A modern winery was constructed to enable the vinification of these parcels, and the scene was set for the production of terroir-specific wines. These wines are a rarity in a region that remains committed to its use of oak as its distinguishing feature. Abandoning this is outdated practice also means that Bideona rejects the Crianza/Reserva system, predicated on time spent in oak. Instead, the wines are classified into a quality pyramid similar to that of Burgundy: regional, single village and single vineyard wines. Terroir expression is at the heart of everything Bideona stands for.</image:caption>

<image:title>Firmin Dezat - Firmin Dezat is part of the new generation of Sancerre producers, intent on establishing a new level of quality for the wines of this famous village. Certified organic, Firmin’s meticulous work in the vineyard is more typical of Burgundy or classed growth Bordeaux rather than the more industrial approach commonly used in Sancerre. The wines are made in a style that showcases Sancerre’s elemental freshness and aromas, along with a generosity of body that renders the wines supple and ripe.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Dezat family has long been a fixture of Sancerre – or more precisely, the small village of Verdigny – where the winery is located. Grandfather André was a celebrated figure in the region and gave his name to the winery. Firmin gained winemaking experience in Carneros in 2011, before returning to the family winery to work alongside his father in 2014. From 2014 to 2020, they operated the winery alongside his cousins, but when his father retired in 2020, Firmin decided to split the domaine and pursue a quality-oriented path moving forward. The new domaine would be known as Firmin Dezat, Vigneron, and covers 23 hectares of vineyard (around 50 acres), with approximately 11 hectares in Sancerre, 9 in Pouilly-Fumé (which is largely sold to the domestic market) and 4 in Menetou-Salon, another Sauvignon Blanc village nearby.</image:caption>
