Julien Brousseau

Julien Brousseau is a project from talented young winemaker, Thomas Ventoura. The Ventoura family have for three generations been making wine from their base in the tiny village of Fontenay, just north of Chablis. Until 2014, the family sold its fruit to the famous co-op in the village, La Chablisienne. But Thomas’ ambition for the family vineyards was greater, and since then he has been producing gorgeous Petit Chablis and Chablis for excellent prices.

Petit Chablis, on Portlandien limestone, and Chablis, on Kimmeridgian soils, are not the region’s most starry appellations. But Thomas works his vines organically and ages the wines for 10 months on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks, giving them additional depth of flavor and textural richness that exceeds the norm for the region. In a world of ever-inflating prices for Burgundy, the Brousseau wines are a consistent and affordable source of beautifully classic Chablis.
